What do Paralegals do?
Paralegals perform a wide range of tasks here at Nash & Co Solicitors. The work really depends on the team that you’re in, but on the whole, their responsibilities include:
Legal Research: Paralegals conduct in-depth research on case law, statutes, and legal precedents to help solicitors prepare for cases. They gather relevant information and summarise their findings in reports or memos.
Document Preparation and Drafting: They’re responsible for drafting legal documents, such as contracts, pleadings, and correspondence. They ensure that these documents are accurate, compliant with regulations, and ready for use in legal proceedings.
Case Management: Paralegals play an important role in organising and maintaining matter files. They help manage evidence, track deadlines, and ensure that all necessary documentation is in order. This includes filing documents with courts and other legal bodies.
Client Communication: Paralegals often act as a point of contact for clients, answering their questions, updating them on the progress of their matter, and gathering important information. They may also help clients complete forms or gather evidence.
Assisting in Court Preparation: Paralegals may help solicitors prepare for court by organising exhibits, drafting briefs, and managing trial documents. They may attend hearings or trials to provide support and ensure everything runs smoothly.
Administrative Support: Paralegals take care of administrative tasks like scheduling meetings, organising diaries, and managing correspondence. This allows solicitors to focus on more complex legal tasks while ensuring that daily operations run efficiently.
In essence, our paralegals are key players in the legal process, providing essential support to ensure everything is well-prepared and handled effectively. Their work helps streamline the efforts of solicitors and is integral to delivering quality legal services.

Career stories
Hear from some of our Paralegals
James Kerswill, Paralegal
Residential Conveyancing team
As a paralegal in the Conveyancing team at Nash & Co Solicitors, I support all of our clients through the process of selling or purchasing residential properties.
I look after tasks such as drafting contracts, carrying out searches, dealing with enquiries and preparing matters at the end of the process when they come to complete. I also liaise with all other parties involved in the process such as solicitors, estate agents, and mortgage lenders to ensure everything runs smoothly.
I love the challenge of keeping things on track and solving problems when they arise — it’s rewarding to see clients’ transactions progress and to provide them with any necessary assistance or queries they may have.
Looking ahead, my goal is to deepen my knowledge of property law and eventually qualify as a solicitor. I’m constantly learning from the team around me, and I’m excited to see how my skills will grow as I take on more responsibility. Ensuring clients get the very best service and making sure they looked after at each step of the transaction are is something that’s really important to me.
I understand that the process of selling and purchasing property can be quite stressful, especially for first-time buyers. Ensuring clients are satisfied by confidently addressing their queries is the most rewarding aspect of the job.
Amie Worth, Paralegal
Medical Negligence team
Working as a paralegal in the Personal Injury team at Nash & Co Solicitors means no two days are the same. My focus is on supporting our clients during what is often a difficult time in their lives. I’m involved in gathering evidence, liaising with medical experts, drafting legal documents, and ensuring that all the details of a case are managed meticulously. My role is all about being thorough and empathetic, helping to build a solid foundation for our solicitors to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients. I’m driven by the idea that the work we do can make a real difference in people’s lives, helping them get the support they deserve.
Erin McSkeane, Paralegal
Family team
I’m a paralegal in the Family team at Nash & Co Solicitors, and my priority is making sure our clients receive the highest level of care and attention during what can be some of the most challenging stressful times of their lives. My day-to-day work involves preparing court documents, conducting legal research, and staying in close contact with clients to keep them informed and supported throughout the process. I also attend client meetings with the solicitors and Court hearings with clients, to support them and take a note. Working in a team means that the work is distributed evenly and fairly. I’m passionate about providing a service that’s not only professional but also compassionate and understanding. Looking ahead, I’m keen to continue developing my skills in family law and eventually work towards qualifying as a solicitor. For me, it’s all about making sure every client feels valued, heard, and confident that they have a dedicated team fighting in their corner.
One thing that I’d really like to emphasise, is that I work in a team, where together we support each other a lot. The value of this approach is that I never feel like I’m ‘drowning in work’ here. I’m certainly very busy, but everything is managed very well, meaning that work is done ahead of deadlines and the solicitors are all very well organised. If a particular task is taking longer than expected, someone always helps by picking up the other work.
One other thing that I’d like to mention, is that my job isn’t just an admin job. I get to meet clients and help them throughout.Client service is obviously a really big thing for us, whether you’re a Partner, Solicitor, Trainee or a Paralegal. As part of this, we believe in consist team working for clients, so they always know who to approach if they have questions or any problems. It’s a great way to work, it’s all very supportive, and really is client focused.
