Plymouth and the surrounding area

Where we work and live

Plymouth Barbican

There is more to working at Nash & Co than just work. There is Plymouth. Britain’s Ocean City has so much to fall in love with and our office is at the heart of it all. Leave your desk and walk for a couple of minutes and you’ll find yourself standing on the quayside of the Barbican and Sutton Harbour - a historic and beautiful Elizabethan harbour filled with independent shops, bars and restaurants. It’s also where you’ll find the National Marine Aquarium - the UK’s largest aquarium featuring Europe’s largest shark tank!

Tomorrow’s stroll from the office might take you along Ebrington Street, often billed as Plymouth’s coolest quarter. Grab some of the best ramen you’ll ever eat for lunch at KYOWA and treat your office to some new greenery at Nook Houseplants. Walk a bit further and you’ll find yourself in Drake Circus Shopping Centre and the heart of the city centre, including its West End - known for its more unique indie stores and the unmissable Plymouth Market. The Grade II listed building has been transformed in recent years and is now home to some of the most highly-regarded eateries in the whole of Plymouth amongst its 100 or so stalls.

Royal William Yard is another highlight and somewhere you will likely see your time regularly spent. Once a victualling depot for the Royal Navy’s food and provisions, the grand industrial centre has been transformed into one of best spots in the city, home to an array of well-known restaurant chains, independent cafes, bars, shops, galleries and popular weekend markets. It’s also where you will find The Hutong Bagel Co. - purveyors of the best bagels in the South West.

Plymouth punches well above its weight when it comes to culture and the Theatre Royal Plymouth is the biggest and most visited theatre outside of London! Shows often debut here before making their way to the Big Smoke.

And of course, it only makes sense that you take some time to see Britain’s Ocean City by boat. Our waterlinks are impressive, joining up the Barbican, Mount Batten, Royal William Yard and even further afield into Cornwall, with regular ferries running to Mount Edgcumbe and Cawsand. Did your commute just become a whole lot more exciting?

Plymouth is spectacular, but for the surfers it has to be Cornwall. The UK’s southerly tip attracts a diverse fan base with its homegrown and delicious food and drink businesses, beautiful and dramatic coastline featuring some of England’s best beaches, not to mention some of the best hotels in the country. But it is the surf which sees the county shine brightest and Plymothians regularly follow the waves to Watergate Bay or Newquay’s iconic Fistral Beach. You can be in Cornwall within 20 minutes of leaving the office and reach most of the county within an hour and a half, so you’re never far away from its magic.
